The city of Varna is the third largest city in the country. Located on the northern coast of the Black Sea, it is known as the maritime capital of Bulgaria.
Varna is home to the world’s oldest gold treasure dating back 7000 years. It belongs to an ancient civilization, older than Mesopotamia and Egypt, also known as the Varna Culture.
The maritime capital is the city with the most thermal springs in Bulgaria. The Roman baths /Public baths/ built in the 2nd century AD are the largest in Bulgaria and on the Balkan peninsula.
The symbol of the city is the golden-domed cathedral Assumption of the Holy Blessed Virgin and it is also famous for the Aquarium, the Dolphinarium, the Naval Museum and the Museum of Medicine.
Nearby are the monastery of Aladzha with its cells carved into the cliffs, the Golden Sands nature park, the Kamchia reserve and the beach palace of the royal family Eksinovgrad.
In the area you can find some of the best beach resorts such as Saints Constantine and Helena, Golden Sands, Sunny Beach, Riviera and Albena.
