Velingrad is the largest spa and wellness resort on the Balkan Peninsula with eighty thermal springs. It is also known as the spa capital of the Balkans.
Located 120 km from the capital Sofia and 85 km from the second largest city, Plovdiv, in the Rhodope Mountains, this natural wonder offers a thermal treatment.
Here is the largest karst lake in the country, which discharges 570 liters of clear water per second.
The thermal mineral water is clear, has a pleasant taste and its temperature varies from 28 to 86 degrees Celsius.
The city is divided into 4 zones with different water compositions.
The first zone is called Chepinski and has the largest thermal water spring in the whole country, discharging 65 l/sec.
There are 14 springs suitable for inhalations, treatment of the nervous system, gastrointestinal diseases, hypofunction of endocrine glands.
Radon water is especially useful for locomotor disorders and is suitable for daily consumption due to its low mineralization.
The second and third zones are called Ludzene, with 40 springs. The waters are suitable for the treatment of locomotor diseases (rheumatism), inflammation of the peripheral nervous system, neurosis, fractures and endocrine diseases.
With a controlled consumption, it cures disorders of the bile and of the stomach (ulcer, colitis, gastritis).
